Georgina Whittome
PhD Researcher - University of St Andrews
Hello 👋
I am a PhD researcher at the University of St Andrews, working across the Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU) and the Centre for Research into Ecological and Environmental Modelling (CREEM).
I’m interested in how we can apply quantitative approaches to ecological questions that have a direct application for conservation. I work at the intersection of population ecology and spatial ecology and spend most of my time thinking about modelling population size, demographic parameters, and species distributions to develop a coherent picture of population life history.
My PhD examines the spatial ecology of eastern North Pacific blue whales, using data integration and spatial capture–recapture methods to model spatiotemporal variation in density and its environmental drivers.
